MGT's and Burton's MEGA GNARLY TRICKS Terrain Park Clinic and Slopestyle Contest went down this weekend at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver! 41 girls took part in this 2 day event battling a snowstorm and stomachs full of burgers and fries courtesy of Coastal Riders Board Shop in Surrey, BC. This contest is a gateway to the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival so the field broadened and a handful of riders came from as far away as Calgary, Kelowna and even Truckee (northern California).
The terrain park clinic was held on Saturday and gave beginner park riders a proper introduction to the park. The clinic also gave advanced park riders the chance to prepare, with a coach, for the next day's contest. Sunday's event saw girls upping the ante with some cab 270s onto the rails, 3's, 5's and Bev going for her switch back 5. The clinic-contest format has been an effective way to increase female participation in snowboard contests. Girls have commented that being 'walked through' the course with an MGT coach on the day prior was a major confidence booster. Rad.
WINNERS:
1. Bev Vuilleumier (Truckee, California)
2. Janele Pritchard (North Vancouver)
3. Marly Last-Minute-Entry-So-I-Don't-Have-a-Last-Name (Vancouver)
Special thanks to Jeff Silcock and the Grouse Terrain Park crew for putting together an awesome course, Damon and the Coastal Riders Board Shop crew for feeding our bellies, the MGT coaches for judging in a snowstorm, Christine McConnell and Deb Friedman from Burton HQ and Dave Birnie from Timebomb for stopping by and highfiving and all our sponsors for the sweet proddy and cash money.
