"If snowboarding was meant to have so many rails in it, it would have been called railboarding".
Last week was not the first time that i heard such a glib comment and neither will it be the last, It seems to be fashionable to knock rails at the moment, perhaps because of their prevalance, but I am sure that it will be some other aspect of snowboarding that in the near future will be the victim of derision.
I must admit I have my own personal pet hates too, which are soccer and baseball, but i hope my views on these anomalies in our support are universally held and widely understood.
I just can't get my head around the idea that people would choose to wear lycra and hardboots, the latter of which is something that even ski companies are trying to modify. They are the binds put upon snowboarding by skiers-a sort of " ah, look at the pretty snowboarders, don't they just look like us? "
Anyway, it is for just such prejudiced views although much less founded than those previously mentioned of course- The jumps and obsticles my not be huge, they may not be excesively hard, nor are they what one might call snowboarding form.
a check-my-first tracks-aren't-I-roots point of view. They are more immediate and accessible than that, riding where ever and whenever you can and want. It is riding accessible to all, and dosn't involve the purchase of prohibitively expensive passes or heli flights, and most importantly it's about having FUN, which if u break it down to its simplest form is why we all ride.
But there are more factors at play here that go beyond the freedom of chooseing where u slide. Mother Nature is a crule mistress and can have us holed up in our sweaty little resort hovels waiting for foul weather to break.
