JumpCamp is still
alive. Can you believe it?!
Well it's been getting cold and to
keep warm we've been doubling up on sweatpants. Besides that we've been working
with our amazing sponsors and crew designing the new park and getting the
mountain groomed and ready. Brochures and posters are at the printers and the
website has been redone. All the new 2010 dates are up and a schwack of new
photos, downloads and all kinds of other jazz. Check it out and secure your spot

The first JumpCamp session was awesome! The
conditions were wicked with all the new snow we've gotten on the Island in the
last month. The season's have switched here this year; we had spring in the
winter and now we're having winter in the spring. Man, it's total global
weirding.... We had a gorgeous day on Saturday and all the campers loved the new
park design. Sunday was a little soggy but that didn't slow anyone down and
everyone really progressed their shred skills over the weekend. Thanks to all
the coaches for their hard work and all of our killer sponsors for all the
prizes!

Road trips
With the lack of snow on the Island this last month we were getting a
little too antsy to sit around so we headed out on holiday road. First we went
out to Banff and hit up Sunshine Village. It was my first time out to the
rockies and it was awesome! The weather was perfect; sunny and cold and we got
lots of killer pics and footage for our new movie project. We'll definitely be
going back again. Thanks a lot to Doug Firby for the great hospitality. www.skibanff.com
Patrick Kitto
enjoying the cold smoke out in Banff. Mmm Mmm good
When we got
home there was still not very much snow so we packed up some clean undies and
headed out again, this time to Whistler. Whistler is always wicked and this trip
was no exception. We shredded the opening day of Blackcomb and then Whistler the
next day and it rocked ( my board and my mind ) haha. Early season conditions
joke... Thanks to Ryan Proctor for hooking us up. www.whistlerblackcomb.com
Myles col' kickin' it with his
favourite run on Blackcomb behind him: the Sudan

When we got home from Whistler, guess what? Still
not that much snow. So we packed up some more clean undies and headed out again,
this time to Golden. Now if you've been to Kicking Horse you know it's rad.
Steep, deep and gnarly. We had a wicked time there until the third day when the
temperatures were a cool -28 in the hills and our nostrils were sticking
together when we went outdoors. We all looked like Michael Jackson with our
noses frozen closed so we bundled our Vancouver Island butts back into the
truck, cranked the heat and headed back west. Thanks to Jordan Petrovics for the
hook up.

Now don't get me wrong, we've had a few good days of hiking

urban stuff in town with the cold temperatures.

Avalanche is the greatest hazard facing "out of bounds" backcountry

venturing into the backcountry and highly recommended from your friends at
JumpCamp.
Have a safe and happy holiday.

Shred news, latest stories, scandalous
photos, gossip and up-to-the minute rumours
Well well well, where to start?
Yes, the JumpCamp season is
officially over. We had an amazing year with five wicked camp sessions and even
had a bonus session at the end of April because of all the snow. Campers came
from far and wide to progress their shred skills and strengthen their freeriding
skills and man, did they. Everyone loved the new obstacles in the park and took
full advantage of them. We even got snowed on during the bonus camp. Fresh
powder in April?! I mean c'mon, fuggedaboudid! Keep an eye on the photos section
of the site for the rest of this year's pics and footage. Thanks to everyone
that shot photos during the camps.

Coach Update ( like anyone cares
)
This time of year all the bros go their seperate ways working and taking
care of business to pay for trucks, sleds and sandwiches for next year.
Myles is off in the interior of BC treeplanting. Haha poor kid...
Doug is in Cali making $ at skatecamp. He might even move out of his Dad's
house this year.
Ole is "working" on Denman. He's planning on converting his mini dumptruck
into a snowcat for next year.
Patrick just got some metal taken out of his ankle so he's layed up for a
few weeks reading gardening and landscaping books.
Matt, Joe and Morgan have been tubing down the river in wetsuits.
Last Shred On Forbidden
The season's have finally changed and it's been real hot lately on the
Island. Everyone's in summer mode getting their bikes, hawaiian t-shirts and
skates out. The snow on the mountain has been melting fast so we thought we
better take advantage of it and ripped up Forbidden for one last
shred.
As you can
see, not too much snow at the bottom of the hill.

Pick a
camp, any camp... No wait, there's only one left! Bye
bye.
The first two JumpCamp's rocked!

Mother nature was a real doll and gave us some killer
weather and the snow conditions were soft and slushy, perfect for jumping and
freeriding. Campers were stoked on all the new features in the park and all the
natural terrain on Forbidden that we sessioned.
We even set up a cliff feature for some
adventurous campers to launch. Campers really impressed me with their drive to
learn new tricks and strengthen their riding. Tons of camper firsts went down
over the course of the two sessions; First time grabs, spins, spins with grabs,
inverted spins... It was insane! All the campers had a wicked time and really
progressed their skills a lot. Thanks to all our sponsors and coaches for an
amazing set of camps. Keep checking back
for all the pics from the camps in the photo section of the site.
New JumpCamp whip: a

Fresh pow in March?
Yep, you got it. We've had some sweet days up the hill lately. With the amount
of snow still on Forbidden we're going to be shreddin' into the
summertime!

that's why it's called Yummies and Gyros. Go get yourself a delicious gyro or
donair next time you're in Courtenay. Thanks to Katherine and the gals for
hooking up the campers and coaches with those delicious beef and lamb delights.
JumpCamp Jam a hit!
We shralped the park, barbequed some nice dogs, jibbed our brains out and
then guess what? We shralped some more! That's right. Our broski Paul Henderson
even came out to hang for the jam. We're gonna do another one mid April so stay
tuned for the date.

floor with the JumpCamp and Onethirtythree crews.
See ya there!
19+, no

This just in: Forbidden has over 400cms mid mountain!! Possibly the most
snow anywhere on the planet.
Well, all the JumpCamp coaches are just psyched this year with all the
powder dumping down so far. We've been on some killer trips to Mount Cain as
well as a few sick trips into the backcountry snowmobiling. The snow's been so
darn deep that we've only yanked our sleds out a few times so far. Coach Javan
Wyker has been taking full advantage of this year's conditions. He's planning on
having another kid so he's got to get all the shreddin' in he can this year
before he's on double diaper duty. Check out the Javdog launching the "Ole" drop
on Forbidden.
My main man Curtis at Edge Performance has rebuilt my sled after I ran it
out of oil last year. Smart move, I know. Go see Curtis if you need any sled
work done, he's the best.
New Coach Myles Delange has been
shralpin' it hard this season. Here's a pic of him launching one of our cabins
up on Forbidden. We've got so much snow that we're riding the roofs! Check out
Myles' new bio on the coaches page of the website. Welcome to the family Myles,
now you can never get out.

YoYoYo!
Well, the camps are all over for another season. What a killer year!
Thanks to all the coaches and sponsors for making this year such a
success. We love you guys.
The
JumpCamp wrap-up party was killer. Thanks to DJ Souls and Klink & Polish for rockin' all night!

Coach Matt Brown has lost his cell phone again. This will be his
352nd phone he's lost and the folks down at Roger's are really loving
him right now.
In sad JumpCamp news, our pal of 13 years passed away last week. We
will all miss him greatly and remember the fun times with our furry
bro. Goodbye buddy.

Our bro Jeremy Koreski www.jeremykoreski.com
has landed the gig of senior photographer for Canada's new surf
magazine: SBC Surf. The new surf mag is full of mind-blowing
photography from both coasts so go out and grab the premiere issue on
newsstands now and see Jer's killer pics for yourself!
Road Trips
We've been going to Mount Arrowsmith lots lately. It's like
Forbidden's little brother and we love shredding and bbqing up there.
The only thing about Arrowsmith is that the local whiskey jack's are
real territorial and are constantly divebombing us and trying to snatch
our food. One flew into my mouth when I was eating last trip, no lie.
Also on that trip Brian broke his board and Ole got caught in a nice
size avalanche. Ole was alright since he's very experienced in the
backcountry but it still shook him up pretty good. "Whoowee!", he had
to say after swimming out of the snow. Avalanches are serious, even in
the spring time so be careful and keep an eye on each other out there.

The critics have spoken: "This Was Your Life"delivers!
Nathaniel
Vossen's painfully long awaited film: "This Was Your Life" is finally
done and he premiered it on Thursday in Vic and Friday in Van and let
me tell ya', the parties were awsome! Tons of people came out of the
woodwork for both nights and we got to pal around with some old buds we
haven't seen for a long time. Make sure to
go
see Jaydee at Onethirtythree in Courtenay or wherever your local
skate/snowboard shop is and reserve yourself a copy of this magical
film.

JumpCamp breaking news, current events, the latest headlines, news photos, analysis & opinion on top stories, world, business, politics and general shred dogging!
Jib Jam-boree a hit!
The inaugural JumpCamp Jib Jam-boree rocked! Competitors came from far and wide with one thing in mind; JumpCamp Glory! We're talkin' spin-in, spin-out tricks on our brand new ledge ( thanks for the ledge Jim! ), frontside to backside slides on the rainbow rail and some crazy buttering of the muffin on the JumpCamp roof step-up, built especially for the comp. Other highlights include eating burgers and hot dogs in the rain. Thanks to all the sponsors and shreds for coming out! We're going to have another contest before the end of the season so check the website for dates.
Coach Matt Brown considers shaving his long locks after seeing Britney Spears' new do. "I think I'd look good with a buzz-cut", Brown said before press time.
Road trips! We're been on a few road trips lately. At JumpCamp we really love holiday road. We headed off to Las Vegas to hob-nob with the snowboard industry a little while ago. We rode around in limos, gambled and ate buffets daily. Coach Javan Wyker, that lucky ass, is off to Revelstoke to test out all the new '08 Ski-Doo sleds. Hope he gets stuck lots! Haha...
Another beauty, was a road trip we did to see some pals in Nelson. It was -18, sunny and the powder was awesome! Our main man Marlin showed us around and shot pictures. Thanks Marl! Check out Gnarly Marly's website at www.marlinolynyk.com
Nathaniel Vossen's long awaited movie "This Was Your Life" is finally done. No, for real, I'm not kidding this time 'round! You gotta believe me... C'mon dude, I'm serious. Nathaniel's been in production of this skateboard/snowboard/lifestyle movie for 12 years so you know the finished product is going to be amazing. He's told me that April is when he's going to be having all the premier parties for it around the Island and the Lower Mainland. Keep posted for premier dates, you don't wanna miss this!
Our bros at Onethirtythree have got a new website up! You can check out their team,skate/snowboard pics, spots, vids and sales going on at the shop. Pretty cool. Check it out at www.onethirtythree.com
CONCRETE - THE SKATE PARK ISSUE March 2007 Remember the mag Concrete Powder? Well, now it's just Concrete 'cause it's all skateboarding, no shred-doggin'. Anyways, the new Concrete No Powder has a killer article about Courtenay and some rad pics in the skateparks around here. Our good buddy Sascha Daley has a bunch of wicked pics in there including a sick one of him kickflipping in the corner of Courtenay's indoor bowl at The Linc and one of him ollieing off a wharf into the water in Tofino. Brrrrr, shrinky, shrinky! My favourite one is of some little kid in the old Courtenay park going huge over one of the hips and there's some good ones in the new park such as a sequence of local home-dog Calen Drysdale. Nice one boys. Go grab it on newstands or at your local skate shop yo!
SBC Skier Magazine: The North Issue, Volume 6 Issue 4 The new SBC Skier is out and there's a great article about Vancouver Island in it. Local two-planker legends Al Hokanson and Yasha Berg grace the pages of the magazine shralping such Island destinations as Mount Cain and Forbidden Plateau.
I thought you should know that...
JumpCamps are starting this weekend!
Session #1 Feb. 24-25 ( full ) Session #2 March 3-4 Session #3 March 17-18 Session #4 March 21-22 Session #5 March 24 ( one day Jam )
Camps are filling up! If you didn't already know bro, JumpCamp is for snowboarders who want to have fun and progress their skills, especially in the park and backcountry. So, if that's you, get your registration's in and secure your spot!
Thanks, See ya later. PK
SNOWBOARD CANADA STORY We've got a killer article in the latest SBC magazine (Volume 15 Issue 2) all about Vancouver Island and JumpCamp. It details the trip our buddies Eric Greene, Jon Coleman, Morgan Parker, Fraser Avey, Pete Anderson and Rick Odam did out here with us last year. Make sure to pick it up and put all the Island pics up on your wall beside those Lindsey Lohan posters!! It's on newsstands now!
