FreakPower has created a new forum topic Looking for travel / boarding partner - Mayrhofen, Austria; January 18-21. Posted on Jan 06, 2009
Hello all,

This is probably a shot in the dark, but will be at Mayrhofen for a short trip January 18-21st.  I am coming in from Amsterdam on business trip, so will be traveling solo unfortunately.

I have a double room booked at the Hotel Gasthof-Bruecke for these nights.  This hotel is very centrally located and has a great nightspot downstairs.

http://www.gasthof-bruecke.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=41

I would be interested in splitting room cost with another solo traveler, or even just meeting up with anyone else who happens to be in the area around this time.  I would consider myself a beginning amateur snowboarder, but a world class partier.  I am pretty much open for whatever.

I have a myspace/facebook/linkedin/twitter etc profiles online, so you can see that I am probably not an axe murderer. PM for details.

If anyone is interested, or knows another site that would be a good place to hook up with other solo travelers, please hit me up.

Thanks.

Sam

FreakPower has created a new forum topic Looking for info about Austria. Posted on Dec 19, 2008
Hello all.

I am going to be in EU for work in mid-Jan and plan to jump over to Austria to get in a few days of boarding.

I am looking at 3 diff areas on the reccomendation of an acquaintance:

Mayrhofen
Saalbach Hinterglemm
Zillertal

If anyone has any experience with these places, or can point me in the direction of some good online resources, it would be much obliged.  I am especially interested in finding a place which has some good nightlife / young crowd, and somewhere I can get a place for very cheap, even if it is a hostel.

Thanks,

Sam

FreakPower has created a new forum topic Yet another post asking for board advice. Posted on Dec 19, 2008
Hello all,

I would like some advice on what size / type of board to get.

In my trips to Taos, I have been put with a 159 CM typically, which reaches just to my chin.  This seems to work, but I have not tried anything else so don't have anything else to compare it to.

BTW - I live in Texas, so trying out several different rentals is not an option.  I plan to go 2x times more this year, and with renting boots+board at $40 a day, seems to make sense to just buy something.

In keeping with the 'sticky' note, here are my stats:

Weight -
140ish

 -Boot size -
I have smallish feet and wear a 7-8 in men's shoes.  I have found I typically fit snug in a size 7.5 DC or a size 7 Burton boot

-Style of riding -
Still learning and like to cruise, no tricks or anything at this point.

-Ability -  Have ridden about 8 times total over 3 trips to Taos. I am one level above suck. I can get down the mountain with maybe 2 stumbles.  Have finally gotten to the point where I can just cruise on an edge and not fight the board the whole way down the mountain.  Ride groomers typically greens and a few blues.

Height - 5'11"

I guess the questions would be:

1. What length board should I get?
2. Is width a consideration because of my wee feet?
3. Any suggestions for specific boards that are a good value and would be a good fit for someone of my ability / needs.
4. Is it OK to get a freestyle board as a beginner board, or is Freeride a better choice?

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Sam
