CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE

1920's, 30's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks some of us took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds, KFC, Subway or Red Rooster.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on the weekends, somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Fruit Tingles and some fire crackers to blow up frogs and lizards with.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and cubby houses and played in creek beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, Xboxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape or DVD movies, no surround sound, no mobile  phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no Lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross buns at Easter time.......no really!

We were given BB guns and sling shots for our 10th birthdays,

We drank milk laced with Strontium 90 from cows that had eaten grass covered in nuclear fallout from the atomic testing at Maralinga in 1956.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!

Footy had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

Our teachers used to belt us with big sticks and leather straps and bully's always ruled the playground at school.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

Our parents got married before they had children and didn't invent stupid names for their kids like "Kiora" and "Blade".....

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 70 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO

DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

I'm a big video game fan and especially keen on Xbox and Xbox 360 (ever since the Dreamcast passed away R.I.P.) and spend a fair ammount of time on the forums over at www.xbox.com. As with any forum there is plenty of complaining and whinging about anything and everything.

The biggest complaints are from people having to wait for content and updates. Now it might just be that I have lived through Spectrum gaming where you could go out and play football while you waited for your game to load or it might be that I'm getting older and can't be bothered to complain like they seem to. At the end of it though people want things yesterday and if they don't get it they'll do nothing but complain. Now this isn't just limited to Xbox forums and extends to our lifestyles now where everything has to be available now and if it isn't then there is hell to pay.
Why can't people just realise that things will happen when they happen. Most things have a reason behind why they take time and are usually business/legal/quality related. Yeah they could give you what you are after but do you want it to break within 5 minutes or be under cooked or to be wrong etc.
SLOW DOWN!!! The World isn't going anywhere and if you don't slow down you'll find that nature has its own way of slowing you down when you get so stressed about waiting more than 5 minutes for whatever you are waiting for.

If the BBC news did start in a rave way like Bill Bailey mentions then I might watch it more often although their theme tune does mix in well to the apocalyptic rave

If you want to know what the original BBC news theme tune sounds like its here:

Well its finally in place, I have told my boss whats happening and the discussions are taking place. What am I on about you ask? I'm moving from the UK to go and live/work in Stockholm, Sweden.
Unfortunately the catalyst for this move wasn't what I wanted and has turned out to be harder than I ever imagined it would be.
A new country and a new start? Well thats something I'll have to find out when I get there.

This song by Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s is a cool tune and makes fun of how things used to be in the 80's.

Now this kind of works the other ways in highlighting how bad things have got with things being steralised and made safe. I mean as a kid its all about putting things in your mouth to find out if it tastes good; toys, dirt all of it building up you immune system. Now though its all about making sure things are clean and no bacteria around which is giving us a generation of kids without immune systems. I mean look at the boom in peanut allergies, never existed back in the 80's but now everyone and their cat seems to have it.
Yeah great, things look clean and are bacteria free but at what cost to peoples long term health?

Just a short one for anyone that needs a laugh or cheering up today. Look up Lee Evans on Youtube (non-UK residents will probably know him from films like 5th Element and Mouse Trap), he is the only guy that ever makes me laugh out loud and enough to start crying.

Here are some of his:

Luckily I've seen him Live in Sheffield, great performance. So if you ever get the chance go see him.

Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go right? Well I think I'm on a whole month of those. Good to get them out of the way in one go I guess.
First my cars windscreen wipers stopped working on the way to work whilst doing 70mph down the M25 and rain coming down and spray coming up from the road.
Then I get a whole load of work dumped on me and told it needs to be done by Friday.

Luckily I get to go to the mountains in just under two weeks so at least I have something to keep me sane although I'm a bit out of practise so I think I need to do a quick refresher session at Xscape (http://www.xscape.co.uk) at MK just to get my bearings back again.

Probably the biggest question of all time to ever cross peoples minds. Why are we here and whats the meaning of it all. Are we a disease on the planet? Do we have anymore purpose than a rat, lion, dog, cat, tree?
Places like Wikipedia have people giving their views - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meaning_of_life
However all these ideas are looking too deeply into what the actual meaning of life is. So what is the meaning of life? Simple... To be happy.
Nothing more, nothing less and anyone who tells you otherwise is telling lies. So keep on Snowboarding and enjoy it while you can, after all its makes you happy so indeed Snowboarding is the meaning of life also

Having the ability to blog is all good and adds features to a site but lets face it, what do you blog about without coming across as an ego maniac or a sad life with nothing better to do than to tell the Internet about your life even though they don't really care and are probably too bored to even read it all.
I mean I could tell you all about myself, who I am, what I do for a living, what my favourite food is and what pets I have but would you really care? I don't think people would. After all the important thing is that we are all snowboarders and thats why we come here... isn't it?
If you have read this far then you must have been bored or forgot what you were planning to do today and became distracted by the pattern of the letters on screen. Either way we have both just lost the time it took to write/read this and I don't give refunds.
