WHAT do you do when you need a second job in order to afford to snowboard, yet that second job will take away all of your snowboarding free-time?
and is it bad to just want to drop everything and move to the mountains?
also - I just realized my "sb.com birthday" is in 3 days. I'll have been here 5 years already. wawaweewa!

Hey ladies! (and guys, too!)
On Sunday March 4th at Cascade Mountain, WI, Shred Betty Magazine will be hosting a Midwest BETTY TAKE OVER DAY.
"but, Chelly, what the hell is a "betty take over day"? "
Well let me tell you!
The Betty Take Over Day is a day where the girls finally (hopefully) outpopulate the guys on the hill for a day of fun and maximum shreddage! It's just a day set aside for all for the ladies, and for guys to appreciate them. ;)
The entire day will be dedicated to the event ( 9.am - 9 p.m ) so make sure you get out there and show your face at some point! ;) Guys and girls alike are welcome! Just make sure you boys wear some kind of pink to support your girls! Girls feel free to wear some pink as well :) Bandanas, gloves, shirts, beanies, etc are all good in the hooood.
During the day we will be holding a small, extremely casual, audience-judged ladies slopestyle competition! There will be some nice prizes including our newly added "Silly Park Rats, Jibs are for Chicks!" shirt, some Shred Betties shirts, pins, stickers, and more! (maybe) The competition is currently sponsered by Girl Powder, Lucid Notion Snowboards, and SixSixOne. If you know of any other sponsers that would like to get in, send myself or Hannah ( editorial@shredbetties.com) a message!
For those interested, go ahead and register! You can register at www.shredbetties.com. It's super easy and will give us an idea oh how many people will be making it out!
I know the Midwest Meet is going to be the same weekend, but even if you guys just wanted to make it out for the comp that'd be great! :) There'll be a small admission fee, but it's not going to be anything over 5 bucks so it won't bust your bank. We were thinking of donating the proceeds to a charity/organization of some kind but that's still in the works!
So make sure you guys make it out on the 4th! So many awesome ladies (and men) will be there, so don't miss out!
so, I won this new hat on Ebay. it's pretty steezy. straight out of the 80's, baby!

(ok so I'm making a serious blog entry because I feel like it)
SO aside from the 80/90 degree weather we had yesterday and the day before, it's been pretty chilly lately ... let's all cross our fingers and hope the Famer's Almanac is right with us having an early/snowy winter! :)
Speaking of which, if there's any one frequenting any of the Midwest resorts, don't be afraid to toss me a message! I'd love to get the chance to shred with different people this winter. I'll be at Four Lakes during the weekdays due to it's close location, Wednesday nights I'll be hitting up Raging Bull because of Free Ladies Night, and on the weekends I'll probably be alternating between some of the bigger resorts such as Tyrol, Chestnut, Cascade and Devil's Head ... and if I'm lazy, the occasional Wilmot.
OH and someone gave me negative karma. :| I wasn't aware I said anything distasteful/wrong, so if anyone wants to call me out I'd like to know what I did! Especially because I've been trying my best to contribute positively to things lately. At least more than usual. Thanks!
I got sick of looking at the old post.
so.
HEY LOOK GUYS I'M UPDATING
Pay check came in. I can finish paying for my snowboard now. I'm very excited.
I'm off to voyage around Chicago to see if any shops have some cold-condition base wax and repair, some waxing tools as well as some tuning tools (files, file guide, gummy/diamond stone, etcetc.) We'll see how that goes.
I have this strange urge to get a skull and cross swords tattoo. but that's just the pirate in me.
*** For Public Viewers: ***
I've noticed my Karma went up recently - Please tell me who you are when +k ing my profile so I can generously return the favor. I'm ecstatic that I'm recieving karma, though. It really makes me feel good knowing I've helped somebody, whether it be just a smile or some actual advice.
All right, it's decided!
Looks like I'll be rockin' the '06 Atomic Polarity this year.
Just put my down-payment on the board. Now I just have to finish up paying for it when the paychecks come in, and I'll be good to go. Now I just need to find a goooood deal on bindings and boots, and I'm set to go. (Except for picking up some new gear. I just realized my pants and jacket are a good, er, 5 years old ... and I still fit in to them. It's pretty pathetic.)
Does anyone else thinks Roxy's new 06/07 winter line is completely hideous?
Yes, yes, and double yes!
I've decided that now that I have a stable job and are actually making a nice amount of money, I'm going to treat myself to a new snowboard this year (Especially since I'll be turning 18 this season, so it'll be like a new step). I've been asking opinions from everyone on what board would be best for me, including making a very helpful thread in the Snowboard section, and I've come down to these three choices:
- Atomic Polarity
- Gnu Barrett Christy Pro
- Ride Kashmir
To be honest, my heart is really with the Atomic Polarity, especially since I can get a bangin' deal for it on Ebay. That, and it looks like such a fierce board. I'll really be able to tear up the mountain with it.
and OHhhh I'm so excited!! :D
I messaged some of the girls on the Atomic team (Vera and Molly) to get their input on it, and Vera already messaged me back. :) She's so kick ass, I love her haha. Told me that the Polarity IS truly a kick ass board, and that it should be exactly what I need.
So I think I have my mind on a board. I'll use my Troop for experimenting in the park and what not.
Hm hm hm this summer is coming along nicely :)
lol. it's what, the end of june? and I already can't stop thinking about snowboarding. I think half of it was contributed to the fact I had a dream where it was blizzarding outside and I woke up all disoriented thinking it was December and I was on winter break, but eh. speaking of which, I need new gear. Time to save up the money so I can hit some of those pre-season/Summer sales. ya dig? If anyone knows of the best places to look up at this time of year, let me know. I'm low on cash, but I need to find myself some new boots. Maybe a board, if I can afford it. Otherwise, I'll just go get it hardcore tuned in Nov. any way, time to go slip on the bikini and stare at my boarding goggles. peace.

I'm serious.
I'm sitting here typing, and it's taking me twice as long because I hurt my thumb. I also look like a complete retard because I have this big, red mark with a gouge in the middle in the middle of my forehead.
Alpine Valley has ben the shi*ttiest resort I have ever been to, and here's why.
1. All of the runs are like green circles/beginner, or maybe like blue squares/intermediate.
Seriously. I'm an intermediate boarder when it comes to Cascade, Chestnut, etcetc, but when I got to Alpine, I rode down the black diamond about 5 times before deeming it stupid. It's not hard at all. In fact, I saw 5 year olds going down it. I actually went more on the beginner hills because they had more turns and such that were interesting. Oh, and the runs are SHORT. And I'm talking short.
2. The cafeteria area/food area is mediocre.
I usually don't care what the food/cafeteria area looks like, but it's at least nice to have it set up so that it's enjoyable. At Alpine, it was like a school cafeteria, just everything was dark. The only lighted places were where you ordered your food. And the food was something I could order at a baseball game. Corndogs, nachos ... Though I do have to agree, the nachos were good. And their hot chocolate was like a Starbucks Chantico, god damn that thing was thick. Oh well. At least it was hot. But they should use some of that money on buying some new tables and chairs for the cafeteria.
And finally, which is what pissed me off the most ...
3.THEY DO A CRAPPY JOB OF GROOMING THEIR RUNS.
I am DEAD serious. I have never been to a resort where their runs were so crappy, other than Wilmot. But still, at least Wilmots was all ice. Alpine had a mix of pow/ice. No inbetween. So you're either going through pow and going REALLY slow, or you're going over chunks of ice/a sheet of ice and booking it down the run unintentionally.
Also, they keep their pow machines on 24/7. Or at least they did when I went there. I didn't mind so much when I put my goggles on, but it still impaired my vision, and being a snowboarder, you know how much your vision is needed. Plus, I needed to see where the ice and pow started and ended. That's where my first injury occured.
I was going down the beginner run, and the first part of it is ICE. Just ice, because the pow couldn't get up there. Then going down to the second part, it was pow, and ... well. I slowed down a lot. Then I started going down, and the pow machines .... Yeah. There they were. So I slid on my goggles super fast, and went down, but OH HO look! A valley of ice chunks and ice that I didn't see! So as I go over them, I picked up a LOT of speed because I couldn't turn as well, so I ended up trying to toeside stop. I did, for the most part, but as I was going in to that action, I put my left hand down for some drag, but since I was going so fast and it was ICE not snow, I clipped my thumb.
I swear to god I have never been in so much pain in my life. I thought I broke it right then and there at the base of my thumb, but I continued on down and just sat down. I think it's just sprained, but it still hurts like a mother f*cker.
SECOND.
I was going down an intermediate course (after going down the black diamonds). The course lead in to the terrain park, so naturally, that's where all the teens were and such. Any way, as I'm going down, I'm turning to my right and ZZZZZIP - This GUY is going straight and in my path! So I'm like, WATCH OUT. But he doesn't, he just keeps going and I clip the end of his board. He stumbles a bit but keeps going, without even caring to see if I was all right. But all the while, I had heel-side stopped so suddenly, then I caught a rough patch of ice, and my momentum flung me forwards in to a nice face plant in to some jagged ice. Of COURSE, I had to hit the ice ... Not the pow. But if the run was all pow, we wouldn't have had that happen.
Now, I'm going down the rest of the hill, kind of in a daze because I just got up really fast from that fall. Basically a fall, roll, and getup maneuver, but it still dizzied me a bit. So I reach my friends and they're like, what happened? So I told them the story, and after ranting about how they were going to go 'kick the shi*t' out of the guy who did that to me, one of my friends was like ... "Hey! Michelle, you're head is bleeding."
And so they laughed. I kind of laughed too because I didn't feel it and thought they were joking, but lo and behold. I took my hat off, and supposedly my forehead was BLOODY. Ew. So I wiped my hand across from forehead, and upon seeing the blood on my fingertips, immediately announced that it was lunch time.
They agreed. So I went to the bathroom, and tried to wipe off all the blood. And I did! But what happened, is that not only did a sharp piece of ice gounge out an itty bitty piece of my forehead, but I also got this massive ice burn around it. So now I have this huge, pink/red circle around the gouge.
And it looks horrible.
Now, I'm a good snowboarder. I rarely wipe out any more. In fact, when I went to Chestnut for a couple days, I didn't wipe out once. But at Alpine, the conditions were so shi*tty, that ... Well. There you go. Even your good snowboarders are in danger of getting hurt. And I'm the perfect example.
So don't go to Alpine unless you want to be severely disappointed by the runs, grooming, and overall general feeling of the place. I'd spend the time going more up north and hitting up Chestnut, Cascade or Devil's Head. But please, for all snowboaders alike, don't go to Alpine.

So I went to the local hill a week or so ago to help teach my best friend to snowboard and such before we throw her on a hill.
and I realized that I am completely, and totally rusty. I can't heelside turn for crap anymore, and I don't know why.
also, my boots seem bigger than last year. I didn't know feet can shrink.
any way, I've recently acquired my old habit of being afraid to 'go fast' down a hill. And I'm not even talking about going fast at all, and I think it's because I just completely forgot how to heelside. I'm feeling like I'm not getting enough response when I turn my body or lift my toes, and it's aggrivating.
anyone know what might be up? I'm guessing it's the boots that aren't allowing me to get the response I should be getting, but it could be completely my own psychological fault.
