The Blackcomb Glacier - Two Words...HOLY S**T

Monday, July 03, 2006
This is definately worh writing about people! This is going to be a long one indeed, but I guarantee it will be worth while. So I just got back from riding the Camp of Champions park with the ever so amazing Whistler Valley Snowboard Club, and although I have come out of it with an injured back and a very painful sun burn, it was all amazing as could be!

Day 1
I met up with my friend Ryan (Smurf) Espiritu and the rest of the crew at 8:00 AM down at the bottom of Blackcomb. We got our passes which had this cool little orange and black sticker that had the Camp of Champions logo on it which made it possible for us to ride their amazingly smurftastic park! My first run through was a piece of crap, so I would rather never speak of it again! But besides the fact, the park had 4 HUGE and I mean HUGE boxes that were a massive 40 ft. long! They also had a huge box that was atleast 32' X 32' that we had dubbed that dance floor. I rocked a massively styling noseslide across one of the 40 ft boxes. I guess it was good from the scream I heard from Ryan when he wet himself. I then went and learnt how to hop on from the side of rails on a 6" wide Down Flat rail that I beleive I eventually nailed after trying it 6 or 7 times.

Day 2
Day 2 is by far the day that could have ended it all. It started great. I was learning how to do pops so I could start spinning on tables and I was doing some more hop ons on a flat down rail. Then it came to the point of the day right after lunch where I hit the down 40 ft. box. I fell on my back, and pulled or knotted a muscle or something, it hurt like a mofo! I was so angry! I was going to try and ride the 20' Down Double Barrel rail on the next run through! But I couldnt instead I just spent an hour and a bit ranting on a camera!

Day 3
Heres a very valuable lesson to learn here, always be good to your mother! She made things all better for me! My back was killing me the night before, I went back to my place and had my mom massage my back pretty much all night. So I arrived at Blackcomb base and I realised I had left my snowboard back at my place, so I had to drive back, get my board, and get back to Blackcomb base. This is where the fun starts! I was having an awesome morning, hitting everything! Sadly Ryan had to head ppout at 11:30 and head for the base. But in the afternoon, I finally got to hit the Double Barrel that I had been wanting to hit for the past 2 days! And boy was it sweet! The thing was hella hard to stay on but I nailed it twice out of the dozen or so times I tried to noseslide it. The past days had lead iup to that moment and it KILLED!

So that was the end of it all! It was an amazing experience. I got to ride with some awesome guys like Ryan and Trevor (your horny devil). My coaches, Rob and Joe and Ollie, were awesome. Getting to watch Tom Kato, Rusty (thanks for all that support today on the double barrel!) and the pros Dennis Bannock and TJ Schneider (NO IDEA HOW TO SPELL THE NAMES LET ME KNOW HOW) was an amazing experience! PEACE!
